Avalanche risk closes stretch of Highway 16 (February 8, 2018)

A bit of Highway 16 will be shut down all of Wednesday (February 7) night and could remain that route well into Thursday (February 8) morning. DriveBC says the torrential slide hazard has imposed the closure of more than 90 kilometers of the highway starting 13 kilometers east of Prince Rupert and closure 35 kilometers west of Terrace. The closure is anticipated to last until 2 p.m. PT Thursday. Authorities are cautioning drivers on Highway 16 from Prince George to Smithers about low visibility conditions because of snowfall. They are recommending to avoid driving highway if you don’t have to.     For the last few days parts of B.C's. Interior have been hit hard by snowfall causing snow cleaning and removal to be a challenging task.   We advise you not to hit the road if its not absolutely necessary, there are risky highway conditions at this time. Authorities are doing their best to keep the highways safe and clean of snow, but some areas might be har
